First Grave on the Right By Darynda Jones

Rating 3.5 out of 5
Recommend: sure, why not?

You can read it free on the wattpad app HERE.

So...this was a book club read for the month of May. There were two picks this month and the other was Game of Thrones. Right now I have a few ARCs I have to read and review so I can not commit to reading that series at the moment. Little did I know there are several more books to this series. HA! Shame on you, Dot!

I gave this book a 3.5 because I can't stand the many cliches that are flowing through this book. Yes, I can get over it, but one of my favorite professors told us to try to stay away from your reader being able to finish your sentence. I guess that stuck with me.

This is the story of Charley Davidson (I cringed when the joke on the Harley was finally made). Charley was born with the ability to see the dead. She is, in fact, a Grim reaper and a Private Investigator. Charley uses her powers to help her cop uncle (and before that her cop dad) solve crimes. She does not let many in on her secret -- I mean, would you?  But those who do know either think she's crazy or the best thing since sliced bread. *CRINGE* I did that on purpose! Charley is pretty much hated by her stepmother and sister. The hatred from her stepmother is clear, but from her sister, Gemma, it is really not too clear. Maybe it will be discussed further in "Second Grave to the Left"? I sure hope so. I have a lot of questions.

At any rate, in this book, Charley is helping her uncle solve the mystery as to who killed three lawyers. She is also trying to come to terms with her own powers and what this mysterious entity that has followed her since the day she was born.

Oh! Charley has some scandalous "love" scenes, so I wouldn't recommend this for a younger audience.

Read it. Love it. Read more of it. I have a whiny 18 month old who needs my attention, so I have to end this here.

Too Late By Colleen Hoover

Rating: 5 out of 5
Recommend: of course

And you can read it for free on the wattpad app HERE.
Time it took to read: 1 day

Let me tell you one thing: Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite writers, so I may be a little bias...no. Nope. If it was awful, I would be completely honest. I loved this story and I commend anyone who read it while she was updating it. I do not know how you did it, I would have been dying for the next few chapters. I am so happy I waited. One thing I did not like about this app is the stupid comments. I kept saying I would not click on them, but of course, I would get to a point and it would be over 100 comments and curiosity would get the best of me. And, as I expected, I would be mad I read any of it.
So, let's see how I can review/summarize this and not give away the entire storyline. The story is told through the perspective of three main characters (and a few others at a certain point, but I would say these three are the most important).

Sloan - Sloan is a 20 year old college student who is torn between getting out of the life she's living or staying for the money her boyfriend is providing for the care of her younger brother. It is clear that she has had a rough childhood, but would do anything to keep her brother safe, even if it means being in an abusive and dangerous relationship.

Carter - what can I say about Carter? He's the one you'll fall in love with in this book. You will learn early that he is not who he says he is, but just as you fall in love with him, so will Sloan. He's...well...that's pretty much all I can say about Carter due to the fact that I want you all to have the same "for real??" moment I had.

Asa - Asa, Asa, Asa. Oh, Asa. He's the idiot abusive boyfriend of Sloan. And let's just say he's got some heavy stuff going on with him. From past to present. At one point, I felt bad from him as I read about his childhood. However, the stunt he pulls at the end of the book, that all washed away.
This book is not your typical love triangle by any means. It is filled with heart pounding suspense and heartfelt moments. I say download now and read it! Fall in love with Carter and see for yourself.

Me Before You By Jojo Moyes

Rating: 4 out of 5
Recommend read? Yes

I picked up this book because the movie preview intrigued me. I do not know why I do this to myself. Books to movies are NEVER ever the same. After reading, I watched a few more previews and *sigh*, I found several things that were not true to the book. But, oh well, I will be going to see it once it releases on June 3rd.

It took me about a day and a half to read this. I could not put it down because it kept me wanting to know more. I fell in love with Will Traynor. Was it empathy or sympathy? I'm not too sure. But I was pulling for him the entire time. Maybe it was my connection to the disabled. My mom was restricted to a wheelchair when I was younger, so reading about this character who found himself in one, touched a place in my heart.

Will was full of life. He went on many adventures that included traveling, skydiving, and anything that I probably would never have the balls to do! Until one day, he was involved in a motorcycle accident. Life changed for him. He was at the end of his ropes. After an incident, his mother decided that she would hire a caretaker for him in addition to his nurse. Cue Louisa Clark. She had just lost her job at a local cafe and needed to find something quick to help her family pay bills. After a few bad experiences at jobs she was placed at, she went to interview for the caretaker position. This is the story of the six months they had with one another.

It is hard to give a summary without giving too much away. I loved the story, but I hated the ending, which is why I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. I would recommend this book. Honestly, go read it now. Drop what you're doing and fall in love with these two. This book made me smile, laugh and cry. Even though I can tell the movie has been altered a bit from the book's story line, I would say go see that too.

Welcome to Dot's Dirty Book Deets

This blog will serve as a review site for books that I stumble upon. I am finally doing something for ME! This has been something I have wanted to do for a long long time, but just have not given myself the opportunity to do so. Now that all I have planned for this year is to give birth to this new baby, I think it is time to get to doing things that I said I would do.

Why a book review blog? All I do is read! I love reading and ever since I was added to my mommy group's book club, I have been exposed to a lot more authors.

Who is my favorite author? Right now, Colleen Hoover. I may be a little obsessed, but that's okay. I will be rereading all of her books to refresh my memory to write accurate reviews.

How will I rate these book? I am currently coming up with a more specific scale based on a 1 - 5 rating so I can keep it accurate and my readers will always know what to expect.

How did I come up with the blog title? I asked my book club and they gave me suggestions. A close friend from my mommy group nicknamed me "Dot" and it really has grown on me.

I have to wrap this up because a certain 18 month old is messing with my keys. I hope you all will enjoy this and share this blog with everyone! My first review will be posted in a few hours. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
