Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry

Release Date: December 7th, 2017 Genre: Contemporary Romance

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.
The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.
Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.
Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.
And in a flash, she was gone.
Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.
She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.
Caged.
Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.
Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.
When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

Dot's Deets: 5 Star Rating

You know, I made a post on facebook a week or so ago (before reading this one), talking about how reading a book should be to me. And I compared it to music. Let me go find the post, because, honestly, it really sums up this book for me...hang on..Well, not really, because you're not going to pause or anything while I go look for it, but you get what I'm trying to say.

For me, reading a book should be like listening to your favorite songs on repeat. Not in the sense that the same words should replay, but for the mere fact that it should evoke the same feelings. There's something about it that leaves you wanting more and, when it is over, you just want to hit rewind and do it all over again. It should make you want to cry and sing along. It should make you laugh and dance to the beat.

I guess music should feel the same. Desiring to curl up with that book and just listen. Let the words hit you. Let the rhythm fill your soul.

Pages full of melody. Notes full of words.

This book. This book right here are my words personified. I try not to go into much details when reviewing books. I try to just let everyone know how it made me feel. So they know that it will make them feel also. Or have the possibility to do so. The rest is up to the author and their book descriptions.

Brittainy (I just realized I probably have been spelling her name wrong this entire time, my apologies), thank you for this book. Thank you for your characters. Thank you for pouring these words out onto paper. It isn't easy. You won't be for everyone, but you are for my eyes. The storyline was heart wrenching and beautiful. These characters. Whew.

You may need the whole damn liquor cabinet for this one. And tissue. And your favorite music. I recommend Sam Smith. I have been on a Sam Smith kick, and he's perfect for this.

Happy reading.
